Default Costa Rica Report

The El Nino is finally leaving and fishing is getting better. The water temps. have cooled a little. Most of the boats are starting to get 8-16 sails a day in Golfito with some tuna and dolphin mixed in. There are still a couple of marlin around. Marlin fishing should get better with smaller fish and many shots until July and then after July the Bigger 500+ lbs. fish should show up! With just one or two shots per day. One boat landed 3 blues in one day this week. The 250+ yellowfin should start to show themselves soon too!

It jacks with the water temperatures, which are what basically drive pelagics around.

As the water temps go up, the fish go down. Normally have to fish deep when the water is that hot, fish get uncomfortable in the hot water and seek the cooler water out.

The water temp goes up and the fish either go deep or move out of the area. It is a cycle that happens every five or six years. this one started last year and continued into this one but is now pulling out and the fish that moved to other cooler waters are now coming back in force. Most of the peligic fish like sailfish had moved up to Guatamala and now are returning. We have seen boats getting as many as 20 sailfish now per day. Thanks
