Just keep at it, it seems like your doing the right thing. I personally would change to an owner 6/0 circle hook, you cant miss a sail on those. I too bridle my baits with the small rubber bands and it works like a charm. Use 40pound florocarbon leader and you will be set. It can be frustrating, but its worth it.

We went out of Government cut last Saturday...got about 50 threads at Bug and headed out. As soon as we saw it was a South current everywhere we should have packed it in....South current sucks....for just about everything!! Caught 1 mutton, and did not even see a sign of sails...water was crappy green-blue way past Fowey.

well i finally caught my 1st sail, estimated it to be over 70+ lbs. awesome fight, took some pics and gave him a nice release . no more action for the rest of the day though but i was happy with it. caught it on a deep bait about 50 ft down in 210 ft of water. the edge was out deep today. ill post pics as soon as i get them uploaded.

even though the few bites ive had have been deep, the Kites are nice cause you can fish 4 more baits away from the boat. ive caught dolphin and kings on them so far so its all good. im sure when the sailfish bite is hot, the kite baits will prolly get crushed.
