My buddies and i fished the Key Largo Sailfish Challenge this weekend along with 14 other boats. What an amazing weekend it was down here!
First day of the tourney(sat.) we went 5 for about 12. We had 1 quad up, 1 triple, and the rest doubles. It few words it was a clusterf#%k out there when fish came up. Cutting off other fish and crossing the entire spread after one was hooked. It didnt help that it was a 12 pound line tournament. We werent thrilled with our 5 fish when we got in that day because the top 3 boats had, 16, 14, and 12.
Second day we got our spread out and after the 4th line was set, got covered up by 4 fish, got two outta the four. Alright, good start we figured. By 9:30, and hour and a half after lines in we had 7 fish released. If we kept this up we could at least win a daily or somthing. Once again we had unlucky mishaps that cost us quite a few fish. But we finished the day with 12 fish.
The boat that took top honors was the Nadine with 12 fish the first day and 22 fish the second day, finishing with 34. They were all dialed in and were fish catching machines. We finished one fish shy of the second place daily...sad. Out of 15 boats and i think it was 42 anglers....296 fish were released in two days. Quite a tourney!!!
