Raymonde,
It's very simple - the hard way - or the easy way. Here's the hard way. 1- Buy a lottery ticket and win - that will give you plenty of money - which by the way you are going to need. 2- Buy whatever kind of very expensive boat you want to fish from - make certain it has at least 50-60 rod holders in it and live wells that can keep loads of bait alive not to mention oversized engines that will allow you to go over 50 knots. 3- Go to the most expensively priced tackle store in your area and tell them you want 8 fully rigged tournament sailfish outfits - get yellow hi-vis line. You'll also need Kites, electric kite reels, and all the terminal gear. Lots of bucks there but nothing compared to the boat. Oh, if you get a trailerable boat you'll need a big ass diesel truck to pull it. 4- Once you are fully rigged and ready to go you still will have no idea what to do with all the stuff you just bought so you'll need to hire a professional captain to run your boat for you and do everything but reel the fish in for you. The economy sucks now so you can find plenty of good guys right here on the forum that could use the work. Your captain will tell you what additional equipment you need to meet his requirements for running your boat. 5- Once you are all set you get a few warm bodies to fish with you and since the captain will probably have a mate all you and your crew will have to know how to do is turn the handle of a reel. See how easy - now you are right up there with the best and are a tournament sail fisherman. And you probably only spent a moderate fortune. Worth it? The other way (the easy one) is to just figure out how to catch them yourself by chartering one of our forum sailfish captains (we have a few really good ones) and let them guide you to catching a few and then see if you even want to go through trying it on your own. Only a few people do it because it's just not that easy and you really need the help of a pro. I was trying to make this funny and not insulting but as you can see from previous posts on this thread most guys didn't even understand what the heck you were asking. Look at what Don, Cutler, and Dave posted - get it now? Harry |

It's experience. Get out there and do it with someone who knows what's going on or by trial and error. I've been sailfishing for close to ten years now using knowledge from a combination of both. Fishing with guys can give you a good leg up, but you will learn a lot of it on the fly.

Bud,
You'll need to talk to boats on your own. To have any hope of getting on a tournament team, the guys will want to meet you in person. A lot of the good teams have started pre-fishing already so get on it! Good luck Raymond! ~ Ameristrat
