It is not illegal to remove the fish from the water in Costa Rica. It is illegal to remove the fish by using a gaff. We would never use a gaff. Everyone is aware of the value of a living sailfish.

It is best practice to leave the sail in the water after revival. At this time it is our practice to allow only one photo per charter, we are moving towards eliminating the practice altogether. This will require some education for both the crew and the clients.

This is a topic our company struggles with. I would welcome a dialog on the subject. How do we keep the clients happy and lure new clients without the classic lap photo?
