We started early sat. morning, My crew was harry and his son , We came out lake boca about 10:00 am set up a troll ran out to 800 feet nothing happening. got a call went back in picked up Coop (marauder 1) he supplied plenty of GoGs and lots of talent we ran back out off pier in 220 drifted fast to the south had nothing but a bite off by a jumping king fish, just as we were ready to reset we picked up about a 10 pound blackfin tuna. We ran back noth of the inlet reset and drifted with no hits again, coop started bumping it back deeper and right as the day was ending we hit a double. both short lines got hit by sails. I locked up one and harry locked in the other, I palmbeach released my side due to a bad knot I think. But harry handed me his and I finally popped my cherry and landed my first sailfish. yes it was my first as I only have been fishing a few years , special thanks to Coop he really helped make it happen. Harry had filmed the entire thing on video , but forgot to hit record so maybe next time.
It was a long rough day , but ended up a memory for me forever. I must say if you want to learn how to kite fish or need a good charter call on coop Marauder1 charters, He is the man. |

Congrats on your first sailfish!!!!!!!!!!
That sucks about not getting it on video; you still won't forget your first sail...i remember mine like it was yesterdday...1987....21 mako, old 2 stroke, 90 feet of water off the whistle bouy out of ocean reef chumming for yellowtail with my girl....saw a hoo shower, threw a live bally and it was game on...only problem, I was so lit to get er done, I cut the anchor line to chase down the sail....clean release on straight 15# test and 4o hook.....no worries on the anchor line, theres plenty of that to go around ![]() Tight Lines Frank Quote:

Congrats on your fist sail. How far offshore were you? I have been too chicken to attempt it.

Great story! My first sail hit a live pilchard on the left long rigger in 165 feet. We were slowtrolling off of Duck Key just north of Marathon...

we were about 150 feet of water north of boca inlet. the sun was about 2 foot above the buildings. southern current, NE wind. big live gogs.
I should have started fishing along time ago, but I had other priorties and had a fear of sharks thanks to the movie jaws. All that ended with a simple snorkling trip in akumal mexico, long story will not bore you. but thats how it all started 3 or 4 years ago. oddly enough I do it all backwards. caught swords first night then day, then trolling, bottom fishing , and now kite fishing. |
