Headed out around noon today. Threw the net twice in the inlet and loaded up two wells to the top with nice pilchards. Ran out to 100 ft and started live chumming and got into the kings pretty good, played with them for a while and then wanted to find something better. It was flat and there was zero current, what to do
. Just want to bend the rods a bit before the wind picked up for the sail bite, so we run out to a couple wrecks and see who is home. Our our first stop is a wreck in 290 ft and we come across a nice show of fish. Have been catching some nice blackfins on the jigs on the wreck we stopped on, so I figured we would give it a shot. All we had was the sailfish tackle and some light spinners.... I rigged up my yellowtail rod (6-12lb star with stradic 4000) with a small jig on 40 lb leader and sent it down hoping for the best. Two cranks into my retrieve I was in trouble, much more than a blackfin. 35 minutes later I put a 55-60lb AJ in the boat. This continued for some time and we landed about a dozen jacks and got holed up on what was most certainly a fat grouper...Suddenly the time we were waiting for comes. The wind cranks around to the north and the seas start to increase so we change up tactics and get the kites up and start live chumming. Started out slow, but about an hour before sunset the sails started to chew nice on the kites and flatlines, even pitched a tailer a bait on 12lb test and got the release. Had them up in the live chum around the boat, was pretty cool to see.... Nice afternoon on the water.Went 4-4 on sails (love them circle hooks) and a waay to many big AJ's, kings, and bonies. Lookin good.... ![]() Guess they are down there... ![]() Not bad... ![]() ![]() Oh sh!t:cuss: :roflmao: ![]() The result... ![]() Wind picks up and these guys start comin in.. ![]() ![]()
