It was the worst of days and the best of days. Wednesday we went out livebaiting and kite fishing and burned thru a bunch of baits with only a skip jack to show for it. We had a kingfish to the boat and popped him off. We had two fish pull major drag on a fifty rod with 65 lb braid and got them within 20 to 50 feet of the boat only to pop both off without ever seeing them.
No sail action at all. Birds dipping and swarming but nothing came of it.Thursday we went out again with a well full of gogs and a crew of Harry and Patrick and Pat's gal Kristen. We set up and immediately had a double header of sailfish which Pat and Kristen caught. It was Kristens first. On the next drift we hooked another sail on the flatline and billed and released him. We next hooked a dolphin and had him to the boat but popped off the schoolie while greedily looking for his buddies to join him aboard the Fish Magnet. Then we got two wahoo bites on our deep baits but both fish escaped being the daily sushi special at Casa Bajakian. Finally we spied a whale shark that then spied us and came over to visit for a while right at the boat. It was really cool to see the beautiful creature from that close. We ended up 3 for 3 on sails and 0 for 2 on wahoo. What a pretty and enjoyable day. Its days like today that make it worth owning a boat. |
