For kite rods - I love any of the TLDs. We use TLD 25s but 20s and 15s are great too. If you want the two speed feature, 20 II or 30II would be great too. Just don't spool up with anything heavier than 30 - it's overkill and not as fun.

For flat lines - I LOVE the Baitrunner 6500. It is extremely versatile and it my favorite reel to catch sailfish on. It's probably my favorite reel

I love my Tiagra 16 two speeds. They are a little pricey but you will own them forever if you take care of them.

The TLDs are really nice as well 15s and 20 are all you need and if you loose one you can go score another without a tear in your eye.

When we first got our boat almost ten years ago, we went to Ray's Offshore and he set us up with our Shimanos and I have been a Shimano man ever since - If you take care of them, they take care of you - I love them.

I like catching them on spinning tackle. I use Diawa Team Advantage reels with 17 lb test on the kite. I am getting two more Diawa spinners this week. The Diawa Emblem Pro. I am going to put 20 or 30 lb test on those.

I love the Tld two speeds and the baitrunners. We catch tons of sails on them and they are great. The tiagras are great too. But, i like the lightness of the graphite for sails. Metals better for bigger fish.

I am a little old school but I love my Finor Tycoons.
Very simple but heck after almost 40 years they still are better than my TLD's.

I've caught sails whites blues and tons on dolphin on them.

Down here they only fish spinning reels for Sails with either 12 or 20 lb. test line.. We see no need for revoling spool reels.

I used to use Penn spinning reels until I used a Shimano. I don't think I'll buy a Penn spinning reel ever again. The smoothness of drag doesn't even compare.

As an aside: for bottom fishing, I think the Penn 4/0 and 6/0 are great reels, and prefer them to similar reels of other manufacture.

We Use the Daiwa Saltist reels for kite rods. 6.4:1 on the retrieve. They are star drag reels which i like better for kite fishing.

That is a smoking retrieve! Are those reels expensive? I've occasionally used TLD star 20/40s (it's basically a tld 15 with star drag instead of lever drag) and they are great! Lever drag really isn't necessary for kite fishing unless you aren't paying attention...
