I looked at inlay usa, their prices are the same as hawaiilure but their sheets are much smaller

inly has sheets 3"x5" same price as Hawaiilure at about 5"x9"

just my $ .02

Nice looking rod there Island - Hey Reefling I wouldnt mind seeing some of your work too. I have bought from both companies in the past and for the money and the size sheets I would stick with Hawaii Lure - I have bought plenty of mexican green heart, silver lip, paua and burpule paua for projects.

How hard is it to bend and attach the Paua? Beautiful work.

it does not bend, it cracks. it was impossible to get it on the rod until I spend enough time developing a method through trial and error. Unfortunatley at this time I am not willing to say exactly how, only that I think any rod builder could figure it out if he wanted to badly enough. it is time consuming to say the least and I do not do it on any rods other than the top end ones.

I will order some and see if I can figure it out. Do you usually put it under all of the guides? Does it crack once it is finished on a rod and put under pressure from a fish?

I will let you know how it works out.

yes

no

here's another example-

use the regular natural paua, stay away from the colored ones and the oysters as they chip badly, it'll drive you nuts. one last tip, look underneath the paua sheet, you will see a grain, be sure to orient it longitudinally on the rod. Good luck, post pics.
