just thought some might be intereted in seing the size comparsion of the small avets.
![]() ![]() the SX 5.1 on left... MX 6 in middle... and a TLD 15 on right. check out the diameter of the shaft on the MX compared to the TLD. i hope they dont have the same problems as the TLD for busting spool i can get about 600yds of 50lb spectra on the SX. in picture it has about 300yds of 50lb spectra with a 100yd top shot of 25lb. that is my shark and ray shore casting reel/setup. also spectra does not cast to well from a lever drag reel, when using more than 4 or 5 oz weights, so you need a nice mono top shot to help absorb some shock and avoid cutting in to the spool, when casting. |

Robbie, you sure do love them Avets. They offered them to give me some if we got some thresher records on them. Just to make sure, I tried winding on some at Meltons. I didn't like the tick, tick feel of the gears meshing. The guys at the shop said that they would wear in. In my experience, when the wear in, they're worn out. Am I off in that assessment?
BTW have you seen the new Shimano Tyrnos? It's a Torium type construction lever drag reel in the 15, 20 and 25 size. |

yeah i am not sure these avets will make a super high quality light tackle reel.
LOUD they are. drag lever is not as smooth as i would like. and thier is alot of backlash and play in the handle (comparable to that of a TLD). but the line comes off with a very consistent prseeure, and it can put on some heat for such a small reel. we went shark fishing last night and hooked into a nice lepord, under pressure the reel was very smooth, i think thier clicker/blacklash mechanaism, has a very wierd feel when thier is no resistance on it. time will tell, as i have plans of doing some pitch baiting this summer with them. also samon seasson opeans soon (april 1st) and i plan on putting it to some use then. i have not checked out the tyrnos. but i am in love with the tiagra 16. i want one, but for $400 i am not sure yet, plus thier is a tone of parts in those, and the small avets only have about dozen.
