Default weight size

I am looking to get started into swordfishing and was wondering about the amount of weight to use to get the bait down to the depth and also the best way to rig?

thanks for the help

I pretty much always go 32oz , but you can get away with 20 on some nights..

I use telephone wire to twist the weight on to either the swivel or my own loop made from waxline on the line... I think about 6 twist works well and breaks away when the fish hits..

Go get tight!

I basically always go with 32s as well. I use rubber bands instead of wire though. The weight usually breaks away with a fish, but is easy to rip off if for some reason it is still there. Similar concept with attaching balloons to lines. There is nothing like hearing a reel scream, watching the balloon drift away, and preparing to fight a sounding swordfish.

I used 32's as well but some on shallower lines i sometimes use 26. I also like to use the rubberband and not the wire, breaks off easier.

I don't have any 26s, so sometimes I go with 24s 01456

I don't own a weight over 16 oz. Some nights (like last night) you need to reel the bait up and send it down again, might be a hasle some nights, but allows you to check you baits at the same time. With jugs/ballons it would be hard to do this i assume.

Jugs / balloons come right on and off, nothing to it. A little twist on the wire 1 1/2 -2 times and she pulls easy.
