Default red light red squid...

I was reading back in the forum. There was a post about a sword that was caught on red stick with a dyed red-pink squid. The guy said it was sword candy. I picked up a pack of three and some red light sticks. I'm only fishing 2 rods tommorow night due to some daytime scumbag boat hopper theives that jacked my rods while I was taking a crap in the house. Do you guys think I should have a mix drop down one red stick and dyed baitdown or stick with 2 green and not dyed squid.

If they are hungry, they'll eat, but I still always think it is a good idea to mix it all up. If you keep getting bites on a certain setup, stick with it for the night/week/moon phase/whatever. Sorry to hear about the stolen rods, it really sucks, trust me, I know. Anyway, I'm rooting for you hear and I hope you bag a nice one.

After you cut open a few hundred stomachs you begin to realize that swords are just overgrown catfish with big pointy noses. One day, you'll see me post about catching one on a piece of salami.

Yeah, definitely check your baits. Shouldn't be tough with only two rods. Also, I think you can catch one on a stick of salami. I'd give it a try. I'll let you know how it goes. I might try a hot dog too. I think that a skirt is the key. Skirted hot dogs are gonna be swordfish candy soon.

Yeah, Live bait Sux, use something else for swordfishing.... hmmm? :???:

Thanks Captn. Mitch for that valuable insight 0123 . But don''t you think that salami is too expensive to use for dead-baits ? :joker:

In a pinch, I suppose you could substitute. Would you recommend a sweet or a spicy Sopressatta? Or would it be better to have a varied spread: Sweet, spicy and a hot dog with a skirt? s

FinalPoint - Kevin and I were fishing on your flagship last weekend with 2 outriggers not 1, (you see, the thiefes knew better than to meddle with the Italian Stallion) irat: and had 6 lines out. We had squid, skirts, ballyhoo, bucktail, little lure and big lure rocking. I can''t believe we did not nab a wahoo, tuna, dolphin or king: #-o Dope, I only had some vienna sausages and forgot the salami ig: . Perhaps, that would have turned the tide. Next time I will be better prepared! Plus a few Epi just in case the squidwards are working fine and dandee.

At least you caught SOME fish. Granted, bonitos and barracudas are not prized catches, they do put a bend in the rod. Catch some big broads for me though, I won't be home til March 26th.

RT,
It wasn't the Viena sausages that wasnt working for you, you needed to add relish for the scent with the skirts.

Default The best sopressatta presentation

Yeah Capt. Mitch:

I am heading over to the Italian deli today to stock up for Mananas fishing trip.

Would you think it would be better to drift with a whole one or to slice it into strip baits? I think spicy with a red cyalume may be a good presentation. (a few chorizos strung up in a daisy chain may razzle a few Blue Marlins for the sunny side.)

The whole shebang would be my best guess for a pitch bait to a Mako.

Hey, Kevin K: is that fuel-up offer only good for Capt. Mitch or fair game for everyone else besides CR ? (1100 gallons may be a bit steep for a gag prize).

Kevin. I was taught by an old longliner to dye your squid red or dark green. I've used food coloring, but was told to use "vegetable dye" from a fabric store. I've never been able to find vegetable dye though.

I was also told to use red and orange glowsticks when the moon is small. Green or yellow when the moon is big.

but I don't have enough experience to know first hand, this is just what I've been told.
-Good luck.

They are cheap... $13 rigged from the supplier. They come with 150# leader but for Swordfishing with them, I would swap out the hook/leaded for a bigger one so the price may increase slighty or you can re-rig your self.

These things are very versatile in that you can troll them, rig them on a spreader bar, drift with them, or cast them and use them like a popper. You can even fly them from the kite if yo rig them through the back. The Glow ones will be awesome at night. I can't wait to put one just outside the light or one down deep!!!

The first guy to catch a Sword on one will have his name plastered all over the internet so if you are a shy person, don't fish one
