Metal -vs- Plastic
![]() TLDs are good reels for trolling, bottom, etc... but for swording... I've heard too many "broken reel" stories in the past year to trust a plastic reel, even if it is some sort of graphite composite. Go for the Tiagra. |

Might be different asking which is better Tiagra or Avet or Alutecnos or Penn...see my point....oh well probably not  Seemed like a shamelsss plug to get his # out IMO Sorry to roughen some feathers, but I thought it was a legit question from me. Now that I have the answer , TIAGRA once again ALL the WAY!!! Peace

I think that the tld(50wlrs) and the tiagra are good reels. I hooked into my only sword(damn darkside addiction now) on a tld 50 and was prob happy that it wasnt heavier, since i was fighting stand up. That being said i think the tiagra has a little more cranking power. Those tiagra 50wlrs sure are heavy though. I only own three offshore reels 2 of them tiagra 50wlrs, that i bought for swords.
Love the site, wish we didnt have to travel 70 miles in 3-4s to get to the swords here in texas. You all have it easy

no one saw the humor in my reply, the TLD is not made for heavy work, if fact Shimano tech rep says the harness lugs are not for assisting the load on the rod just to stabilize the reel  but given a choice as to which to toss overboard connected to a real rod and real, the thought of tossing over a new Tiagra just doesn't sit well. So maybe the answer is fish 80W and be done with it.
