I just bought a used international 50 wide that came spooled with 80lbs black dacron. The line seems to be in good shape. Any reason for not using dacron as my backing? I hear a lot about the hollow core lines, but would hate to waste the dacron. Your input is much appreciated.

Dacron works fine. Everyone is on a hollow braid kick (which it is great stuff), but dacron works well with a mono topshot. I would probably put a topshot of 100# diamond momoi or suffix over the dacron and you are ready to rock. Don't waste the money until you have to.

Dacron IS hollow core. The hot brand right now is Jerry Brown. I happen to prefer Gudebrod. |

Sweet, just what I wanted to hear! And yes, I was leaning torward 80 or 100 lbs topshot. thanks for the input fellas. Since it was mentioned, is hollow core just a type of dacron, or is it made out of a different material? Both look the same to me, but then I am no expert.
