I've heard that poly balls will implode if there is a great amount of pressure on it and a polyurethane ball won't. To be used with line attached for a harpoon is the regular poly ball enough or is the polyurethane ball necessary?
Please correct me if I am wrong in any way, I was under this understanding. Thanks Jr. |

unless you carry a 60'' or larger pollyball, it will most likely sink with a hot fish. when it sinks it won't pop, but it will loose bouyancy. use a hard jap ball, it takes up less space onboard and continues to offer resistance when sunk. FYI - jap balls will break, but i am not sure at what depth but i have broken them. steve at hiliner probably has that information. second problem with the pollyball is a float of that size offers way too much resistance before it submerges.

yes, a jap ball is the best when the harpoon line is going to be released. personally i believe that a harpoon running line should be long enough so that it never comes to the end. snapping dobbs (bullet bouys) on the line as it peels out is the best way, they also get crushed when sunk but another can be added with longline snaps.

not sure what the status is there now for selling to the public. tackle shops bitch when their wholesaler sells direct. 954-783-1320, steve is the most in-tune with local fisherman, but anyone can handle questions about products.

Just go directly to Lindgren Pittman. 954-943-4243 They are on Copans and 5th in Pompano and they have the jap balls and bullets. Just make sure to call in advance as they make the jap balls on demand only.

L/P sells retail, but they absolutely protect their venders. that means do not expect a discount on any products. you could find their products for the same price or less from distributors.
cool the way they make the hard balls, two halfs are spun together and the friction welds it into one unit. |

I carry the hard balls so let me now if you need them. They have 45lbs of resistence to 1000ft. Not sure what happens after that but if fails, pat yourself on the back for at least catching a monster fish
The poly balls will loose bouyance and be useless on a big fish. They come with an attachment ring on one side and flat on the other so they won't roll around while on deck. Or you can get them with attachment rings on both sides. The flat side is threaded for a 7 inch riser and you can attache a bouy strobe to it. To keep cost down, you can simply attach a Electralume or a few light sticks to it so you can see it when it pops back up to the surface ![]() -Tek |

Throw it over and hope it comes up soon... which it most likely will. Or some like to attach a rod to it so they have a hard line to the bouy.
