Default stand up curved butts

I am new so take it easy on me . I was curious about using stand up bent butts in the regular rod holders. I just recently finally got my customs rods finished, and I wanted to try a curved butt as a tip rod. Do you have to get the insert for the rod holder or can you make do without? I was hoping to give it a shot friday night. Thanks for the help.

Have you put your new rods in your holders yet?If they are to short get the inserts for the holders. No matter what with the short curve butt make sure you put a safety line on it

I've only had problems if the rod is on the starboard gunnel in a holder meant for trolling, the handle may not clear if the rod is turned outward. I usually run a deep tip rod off the starboard rear corner without any problems. Outward-angled holders meant for drifting don't cause any problems either, as long as the tube is no more than 9" deep.

All depends what butt you have. Aftco now make their bent butts about an inch longer and they fit in the holders just fine and work for stand up as well. If you dont have these longer butts which it sounds like you dont, you can buy an inch or 2 inch (i beleive) extender that slips into the rod holder, but means you can only use that rod holder.

Many people were complaining about them not locking into a rod holder, so Aftco fixed the problem, I believe the short short butt was designed for the tuna fisherman up North.

Heres a link to a topic about this
http://www.swordfishingcentral.com/f...shing4960.html

They look like this and drop in the rod holder

I am trying to get going with the swordfishing. I am slowly getting everything together, tackle is not cheap.
On a side note, I have actually raised a few blues out here and caught one this year.

It is a great thing this swordfishing. Most guys share there knowledge tackle and just about anything you need.If you are lacking in something you can get some one to go with you that has it.Congrats on the blue gssk they are far better to get one on this side rather than the islands.

BeerMan that is the coolest avatar I have ever seen!!!

If I were missing 2 fingers, I could have 1 titty for each finger! But since I have ten, the other two are going to have to find other places to go.

Talk about raise a sword.
