Re-using squid... I've read articles saying you rig 20 at a time and freeze what you dont need and you can use them later.
But after they've been drifting for about 4 hours and start to get whiter and lose skin are they still good after you freeze them until the next trip ??? Thanks in advance Relentless

Most of the time after I've fished the bait, I toss them in the water. If they have only been in for 30 minutes or so, and they still look good, I'll refreeze them.
Dying the baits make them last all night! It can be a little messy, but the baits hold up really good and you can refreeze.

so soak in red dye for a few minutes before or after you rig them ??
Then they're gonna last all night even better then they did and you are able to re-freeze them

I usually end up dying the squid right out there on the grounds while moving after my first drift. I put each one in little 1/2 gallon bucket to keep things neat while moving to a new location. When I get there I put one of those little bottles of red food coloring in one of the buckets and give each squid a quick soak before it goes out again. When they are all white like that dying them is pretty much an instant thing and it tends to wash out very little through the night. It certainly gives the squid a more natural look as opposed to the washed out white. I do end up keeping any used squid at the end of the night, BUT I use them only as cut bait for other things later on. If your buying flats of squid, they cost less than a buck a piece so you might as well start fresh on every trip. Its probably the least expensive thing your gonna use out there. Besides the fact that I think they just look kinda crappy (mushy I would say) if you refreeze and reuse them.

I get them from Florribean Seafood. They are a wholesaler in Pompano. I think the last ones I bought were 40 bucks and averaged 70 to 80 squid per flat. Flats are about 2 feet long, 18 inches wide, and 4 inches thick. I thaw the whole thing and refreeze them with 12 per bag. If you can't get one yourself let me know because I'm running low and have to make a run myself soon.

Bait Masters has some REALLLLLLLy nice flats.
P&P rigged baits in Ft. Lauderdale has the best! I get mine form Florribean also because they are cheaper and the baits are pretty much all nice.

Before i leave they are dyed, place them in a cooler, you'll have some drippage but just move quick and get it over the side once its attached.... the dye will stain a small amount at first but quickly bleaches in the sun. Just be careful and dont spill that shit all over the boat
