When slow-trolling hard tails for yellowfin around the floaters off Alabama and Mississippi, I hook them with an 11/0 or 12/0 circle hook in the SHOULDER. Come right across his back in front of the dorsal fin. This will keep him high in the water and let him swim and breathe normally. Added Bonus: hard tails are damn-near impossible to kill.
When I slow-troll fliers for yellowfin, they get a circle hook in the mouth, from bottom to top. |
