Like Risk Taker, we like the weight farther away from the bait than the light. We use a second long line clip (with Mono crimped to lead ) to secure the lead farther from the hook than the LP light. Instead of a wax loop, we wrap the line that we are going to clamp the weight on with a rubber band so that it won't slide. Havent lost a weight yet.

I used to use those blk bands too but I have switched to suffix 20lb line. Instead of the band, put the line to the weight and light. I have not lost a light or weight since. Seems to be working just fine. Plus with the bands, they tend to stretch after two trips and have to be changed.
Try the line.

I'm new so please bear with me for a moment and then thrash me..
OK, so #64, #32, #24 and little black things, phone wire, wax thread and electrical tape. DAmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmnnnnnn. So my #1 question is this: you don't want to pause with say 200' of line out while you F K with a Ballon, Jug, Pool Noodle, and any of the above attachments to the main line so how do you rig it to release from the line? #2 question is the 30' from the boat and the three way swivel that is not going through the guides? at that point you are leadering the fish - correct? or how do you get the beast within resonable gaff distance and still have the stuff (light) attached? Thanks for any help - I have a trip lined up when I get back in May.

we connect our floats with 10 or 12 lb mono so when your setting the hook and cranking like crazy the float should pop off.if it dosent weo have a releaser ready to cut the float line without cutting the main line. as for the weights and lights, we connect them with LL clips, instead of stopping you can just keep reeling and the line will pass through them fine with the LL clip at the tip of the rod. We get them off as fast as possible but this way you dont have to stop reeling and allow the fish to turn his head. We have wind-on leaders on all of our sword rods so you can crank the fish right to the boat and stick him without really needing to leader him.

I just clip each one on with a longline clip. First the light, Then the weight, and then the jug. No litter and no lost $ on weights. I know a tackle shop dealer or two and they like to sell weights.

My question is the following.
If you tie the lead to the snap-swivel where your squid goes, does the squid present itself correctly? I assume the squid should be "swimming" horizontally when drifting. I want to tie the lead higher than the leader and light so that the squid would swim more natural. Any suggestions?
