Hey all,
My dad and I are just about to set up the boat again with some new light tackle reels and are also about to enter heavy tackle for the first time. The main use for the reels will be marlin (tournament fishing and casual). So we've been choosing between Shimano Tiagra 20's and 80's OR Daiwa SLT 20's and 80's. We are leaning towards Tiagra for their great reputation here as Daiwa is not a particularly big brand, yet they're cheaper and appear to have great specs. Any help is appreciated, thanks Reece |

Those are all excellent reels... I own a couple of each and have had no problems at all... I would recomend finding a tackle shop that carries both SLT's and Tiagra's... It really depends on which one feels better in your hands... The SLT's tend to have a bit more drag, while the Tiagra's have that awesome rubber handle... The SLT's are significantly cheaper and arguably the best 2 speed reel for the money right now----plus Diawa gives you that 90 day no questions asked money back/satisfaction guarantee... I own the SLT 30 and it is one of my favorites... I love the old fashioned shifting mechanism---which I find easier to use than the Tiagra shifting mechanism... I have caught several mako and blue sharks with the SLT 30, and it has performed flawlessly...
