Thinking of putting one of these on the Grady for swording. What do you guys think? Is 1 enough. Pricey darn light!! This in place of the Hydroglow. Any input would be greatley appreciated. I'm a newbi at the darkside. Xenon-X Thru-Hull Sealite. 35/50 watt Xenon lite that should be very bright. Thanks! hb

I have used them on my old and new boat (not the same model). My opinion is - it is a neat feature, especially when you are in a marina in the bahamas, but not a useful swording tool. The swordlight is more effective and you can see better into the glow of the light. Not trying to sway you away from getting it cause they are definitely neat. As to 1 or 2, I would go with 2. I have 1 on the boat now, 2 on the old boat - 2 is better.

I agree with FinalPoint, 2 is better, like have two headlights on your car. I saw this 58' foot Viking called Bimini Twist over in Bimini. They had two of those bright lights turned on at night in the Marina. A real cool novelty if price is no object. But they just shot out the back of the boat. But you should definitely have an underwater Swordlight because this will help you light up a complete Halo around the boat and this can be very useful to help you see the fish as you are getting one close to the boat. |

My plan is to put one out the back thru the transome and put one thru the bottom on the port corner. I run a downeast boat so the hull is almost flat in the aft. This way I'll be able to cover straight back and straight down with the light. I mostly tuna and sharkfish at night, but I might just try swordfish this year.
Regards, Capt. Freddy

Out here in California I have a few buddies that have installed them for bait lights. My friends put 4-6 on for floating squid for bait. I hear they work well, but I personally have not been aboard at night to fish them yet.
I personally have made my own 120 volt over-the-side underwater lights with 250Watt Halogen bulbs out of a 18-24" PVC tube, light bulb socket, a PVC cap, and 25’ of the heaviest electrical cord I could find at Home Depot. It cost me around $70. To construct my lights I run the cord through the tube soldered the wires to the light socket. Then I epoxy the socket to the PVC. I then added around 4" of fiberglass resin to seal the connections. I followed this by filling the tube with as many used tire weights as possible & filled again with more resin leaving about a ¼ " of space in the top to fill with 5200. Then drilled a hole for the cord (just barely big enough for the cord to come out) and installed it with PVC glue. When I install the light bulb I add liberal silicon sealant to the bulb threads after screwing in about ¾ of the way. And to finish it off I wrap the entire thing in Electric Tape. The system works great for me, I have used it for 3 years now and have had great success making bait around the local islands as well as offshore for Humboldt Squid. I have only had a problem once when somebody was careless and cracked the bulb on deck. As with all underwater lights wait until the light is submerged prior to lighting so that the bulb doesn't crack when deployed into the cooler water. http://momentoffame.com/photopost/sh...cat/501/page/1

I have 2 halogens pointing off the back of the transom. I would go with the more expensive xenon or not get them as the halogens are not that bright.
