Hey Guys,
I am getting ready for the winter time grind and decided to build a much much bigger bait cage to leave at the dock. I was going to make it square and about 8 feet by 4 feet. Anyone know of any websites with the materials used, ideas, etc? I think someone on FS forums makes them, I'd like to copy a design similar. I remember someone saying total cost was about $30 or so? Thanks, Mike

I built one this year out of 1/2 in. electrical pvc (the gray stuff). Electrical pvc bends real easy and comes with a coupling on one end. You can take 2 sticks and attach em together and then bend em in a large oval and connect em again to make the frame for the top and bottom (2 sticks for the top 2 for the bottom). After you have the top and bottom made to the size you want cut the frames and add T's where you want uprights. Home depot sells 3' plastic chicken wire in 30 ft. rolls that's what I used for the material around the cage. I wouldn't make the sides any higher than the height of the wire. My cage is 3X7 and has 6 uprights. Once you get the frame built just cover it with the plastic chicken wire and attach with cable ties. It takes a lot of cable ties. You could sew it together if you wanted to. I made the door by making a frame with the pve and attaching it to the plastic chicken wire. I've had this cage for about a yr. and it's been in the water for about 3 months. It should last for a long time cause it has no metal. It cost me about 50 bucks to make it. A pic. is worth a thousand words. If you want a pic. email me and I'll send you one.

I just built one of these monster bait pens over the summer. One thing I'd recommend doing is putting in some sort of removable divider. We've got it set up right now with 2 dividers to cut the pen into thirds, since each section alone is more than enough to hold a few dozen large baits, and it would be near impossible to catch them if they roamed througout the entire pen without pulling it out of the water part way.
For building materials we used the plastic 'poultry mesh' from home depot, 3/4" pvc, and a whole bunch of elbows, 3 and 4 way joints, and tie wraps. |

Hi Mike, I have a copy of the bait pen plans posted by Anthony Albelo on the FS forum. I think this may be the one your talking about. I'll e-mail it to you. Al.
