Default Swordfishing Lights ?

Hey guys, I'am trying to gather some Info and feed back for my next light. The one that I'am currently using, I feel is not bright enough and I don't care for the ballest being external (up stream of the fixture/lamp)
Its a 12 volt, 4ft fixture and produces a green light, I have forgotten the brand name (on the boat) Thanks Karl

EDIT;

Name of light is Green Magnet by...I have no idea. And I seem to be the only one that has one,
so I guess that makes me special......or alone

Make sure your Battery is charged!!!

I like the the Hydro Glows! Some others like the Sword Lights by Rumblefish

In all honesty, it really doesn't mater wheth it's a Swordlight or Hydro Glow. They both catch fish!!!

Nick, I have to disagree with you in one aspect of your post. They do both catch fish this is true but the hydroglow seems to be a fragel light. I have personally broke 4 at this point. Because of that I only use the Swordlight, not once has it let me down. You have a tougher time catching fish with no light and thats what has happned to me with my hydraglow on 4 occasions. For my money go with swordlight it is small, dependable and about the same cost as a hydraglow. Just my 2cents.

It's like Fords and Chevys. We all need one and they both work. We usually choose to buy one based upon influences around us. But we all know which one is better, right?

For me, I want my light to be negative bouyant so it can get a little, or a little bit more below the surface, which they all do if you need it that way.

Nick C - Just remember, Guns don't Kill people, it is the people that are doing it. It is just that some tools are more effective than others.

You see the analogy.

I have never used a Hydroglow light, I know a lot of people that use them and like the light. I also know quite a lot of people that had the bulb shatter on them at home, the ramp/dock, or out on the fishing grounds and they were not happy about that.

For those reasons I stayed away from the Hydroglow light. I have even built a few lights with the ballests from broken Hydroglows and I have only had a problem with 1 of the lights I built. I can tell you that building your own light isn't worth the effort. Go buy a quality product like the Swordlight made by Rumblefish.

I personally use the Rumblefish Sword light. I have been using for well over a year and it has been dropped, slammed on the side of the boat and stepped on and it works great. It has never let me down while swordfishing, I even used it for light at night after Hurrican Wilma.

I did have a problem with the cord (the problem did not affect the way the light worked). Since the Rumblefish light company is local, I ran the light over to their warehouse and Jim replace the cord for me without a problem. He gave the light right back to me and I used that night while swordfishing.

RumbleFish light is a great product and the owner of the company is a stand-up guy that respects his customers and honors the warrantee.

I own a hydraglow i ran into a great deal on one. I fished a swordlight recently and it impressed me big time. That little light is just as bright if not brighter then a hydraglow at half the size! As far as breaking so far so good on the hydraglow. If similarly priced you cant go wrong either way.

We run a blue hydro-glo, and a green sword light. Guess we've got it all covered.

I fish 2 lights as well 1 green and 1 blue. Rumblefish makes a light that has both lights in one. They also have several different colored and combinations lights. 2 in 1, small, compact and it throws off as much light as the bigger lights. I would say that they really have everything covered when it comes to sword lights.

I still like the Hydro Glows, but if you get a Swordlight, go through Tek at www.reelproshop.com

I have and have tried both. For size, durability and light output, I find this to be a simple decision- I use the Swordlight...DUKE

Thanks for your input guys!!

RT, I understand now

Now then, here's what I have come up with from this fourm and from FSFF

There seem to be three main players that have a good following in the swordfishing Underwater lighting arena.

Rumblefish/swordlight----Compact fluorescent bulb (U-shaped) about 3ft long, more light output than a standerd fluor. bulb, wide range of colors, including multi-colors,comes weighted and when not fishing can be used as a baseball bat.

Hydro-Glow---HUGE following, standerd 4ft fluorescent bulb, comes in several different colors, can be ordered weighted from factory, tends to be a bit more fragile than the swordlight but seems to be one of the most popular.

Note: Both the swordlight and the Hydro Glow seem to have incredible customer service.

Ocean-Tec ---LED technology come in multi-sizes and colors avalable in 12-volt or cordless D battery styles. Has a disco ball type effect of lighting.

In conclusion, they all seem to catch fish. Nick loves Hydro-Glow, especially green. I'm still right back where I started.

Default Lite IS Good

I have had success with no lite, green light ,white light and am venturing into the vilot light. I to prefer the swordlight to any other products on the market due to it's durabilaty. In reguards to ur ? I think light = bait = swords so the light has definatly improved my catch and provided chances for some other offshore entertainment between fish.

Right on Bubba !!

P.S. - Those tinkers just seem to slam those large Flash skin Sabikis. Of course, the light reflecting off the skins helps to stimulate their appetites. The other night they were coming in so thick, I had one on every hook. I think I may need to start trimming back a couple of hooks, to avoid tangle Mayhem.
