With Accurates you do need mantince. But, from what i understand, they'll do that for free for 10 years. Just ship it to them. More people would fish the accurates if they were cheaper, and i know of no one who does who can say one bad word. If your looking for price, go with the Tiagras, best overall, go with Accurates.
But one good thing, i havent had a problem, and only heard of one on the 50's. The 2 speed button sheared off while putting line on... how that happened i have no idea.

One thing I know that accurate does different than any other 2 spped is that they don't use any carbon fiber in the drags (all metal)... My understanding is that there are pros and cons to this set up... The pros are that the drag is the most "accurate" and smooth barring none... A long time ago, a tackle shop owner told me the cons---I can't remember exactly, but I think he said that the fact that there was no carbon fiber in the drag system meant that regular maintenance (as in after every trip) would be mandatory... Do you have to maintain these things after every trip?... If so then I'd rather not go there, as beautiful women are needy enough as far as maintenance, I can't fit a reel into that scenario...

You need to take into account the fishing experience of some of the people that are replying to this thread.

Those that fish, or use to fish a lot with different tackle and now use the top brand reels on the market can offer you the best opinion's.

Avet's good some minor problems with the silver anodized finish, Tiagra better never have heard a bad word about them. TLD 50W LRS, I have only heard good things from my friends that fish them. My Shimano 50WII Tritons are great reels.

I am switching over all my reels to either Avets, or Tiagras. I'll know tomorrow.

The only thing that bothers me about my Tiagras is that the anodization scratches like butter... To the contrary, my Penn VSW probably has the most impeccable finish of any reel...

"... One young kid told me he broke a Tiagra 30wlrs on a 500 pound black marlin in Mexico... "i had something similar happen a 750lbs black out of panama on my 30 w alutecnos w/ 100 power pro. 7 hours. touched the leader but could never get it close enough for pictures. handle became loose and fell off on a fishing trip a few weeks later , had to get a drag fixed , new line , and new clicker. the reel has held up pretty well even with its cheap appearence , plastic handle , but is a great wreck, deep drop, and back up sword reel, caught a 350 lb marlin off here about 5 moths ago. no problems[/quote]

I wonder if there's an aftermarket handle for alutecnos... The only thing I don't like about them is the handle... The alutecnos handle is Like the standard penn international and old 2004 tiagra handle... not very comfortable or innovative...

I would trade all my gear to go Alutecnos any day. 1 of my clients brought aboard an 80 WIDE and I mean wide, probably holds 1200 yards or more of 80 lb. Not to mention it was the smoothest reel I have ever fished with.
