Default What do you soak your bill in?

I usually leave my bill in the canal of a couple of weeks and hose it down every week or so, but my friend is heading back up north and he caught the fish so I want to send it with him...

What can I soak the bill into to get rid of the smell of death?

thanks..

After all the meat's out I usually scrub it with soft scrub with bleach and a pretty stiff brush. Squirt a little bit down the center of the bill then leave it out in the sun to dry for a few hours. The bleach will make the bill a bit soft, but it returns to normal after it dries up.

A buddy of mine suggested to soak it in a bath of Hydrogen Peroxide. After the customary soak in the canal for a week I am trying it. So far it seems to be working. I have had it in for two days and it has cleaned up very well.

First thing My dad did is put it in a bed of red ants yes red ants, those little guys ate all the meat, then we sprayed clear coat on it to preserve it, it sits on my shelf now, no smell and it looks great, brandon

Why put it in the canal? So crabs and pinfish can clean it?

Will the bleach or hydrogen peroxide turn it white?

What is clear coat? Is it readily available at a hardware store?

Does this work for other billfish? I've never killed a Marlin, but after the tournaments here most of the bills from the fish that are weighed just get thrown away. Could I treat them the same?

Thanks.
