As bouncer said at the seminar you should put a mighty or small light six feet from the bait and a lp at the junction of the leader up to 30 feet away. Pumpikin eater says strobe is the way.

If you don't mind keeping your crimper out and using a new crimp each time I have a very easy way to rig squid.
1. Cut your leader at an angle so the end is pointed and sharp
2. For placement purposes lay your hook against the squid so when the eye is at the point of the mantle you can see where the bend of the hook will be.
3. Where the bend lays simply make a small incision in the squid with a sharp knife
4. Insert the hook (eye first - no leader connected to it) into the slit you cut and push the hook eye to the tip of the mantle.
5. Place a crimp on your leader and and push it through the squid and eye of the hook.
6. Crimp the leader with the crimp right at the tip of the mantle.

The squid will flutter beautifully when you drift and the hook is very well secured in the squid as well as being exposed for a good hook-up. Of course if the sword chooses to slash the bait, and you get half a squid back, then there isn't much you can do. I like to think the slashed baits are from the smaller fish that we don't want anyway. A big hungry fish can eat these small squid with no problem. I have had small fish (barely legal) swallow 3-4 pound mackeral when day dropping so big baits don't scare them off.

Its a lot easier to buy them from Big Game Baits than going through all that Bull crap. Besides there hasn't been a day I haven't gone out and that DL's baits haven't gotten hit. I don't like to waste time I like to fish.

I know Luis has great baits but for some of us rigging our own baits is actually part of the catch and is fun. I was just explaining a way that I find to be easy and effective.

Rigging maybe fun for some people who only have time. I barely have time to sleep so when it comes to fishing I have very little time so I need all the time I can get on the water when I do go. Why waste my time rigging a bait when i can buy a great bait that cannot be rigged any better. I guess I'm not cheap

or I just don't have time for that part of the fun.

I've rigged 17" squids on circle hooks 18/0 L/p, everyone tell me there to big...I disagree with them but they do get slash by smaller fish alot.But when that big Mama.....come

it was about 12".. used a live jack (20") also from Lauderdale Marina and got one about 250. I don't use real big hooks but you can rig them to swim and dance.
