Default Drag work on smaller reels for heavy line

First let me say the this is a great site and I've been enjoying it.

I have been searching the forums for information on what needs to be done to smaller reels using spectra, and haven't had any luck. I saw something a while back on having the drag reworked to allow a higher drag setting and still have a free spool function

Any information on who does the reel work and what are the limitations of the reels would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I would like to do:

200# hollow core on an old 80W Penn (pillar type) and a 2-speed 80 Penn
130# or 150# on 50W Penns

Thanks in advance for your help

You are asking general questions about a variety of reels. It would take more typing than I care to do to discuss this adequately. I will entertain specific questions should you need further help.

For the DIY types...

For the not so mechanically inclined...

Edit: I checked my links and found that Kerry is no longer offering reel enhancement work. The pages for DIY are still available and an excellent reference.

Thanks DSG,

I know it was a general question, but you have answered my questions perfectly.

Glad that I could assist you.

I did have an additional thought. Check out John Baker's work...

He does the drag enhancements too. An email might get you a custom frame for that old 80W.
