Default HOOK SIZE/MONO SIZE

Anyone feel that 9-0 is too small? It seems I have had better hook sets with 11-0 2x short shank offsets. Also, I have noticed more hits on 200 lb momoi diamond as opposed to 300 or 400 lb mono, anyone else notice this?

Lighter tackle always invites more strikes. It's usually quite a tradeoff and your decision only.

a strong 9/0 will be fine

Good Luck

I've fallen for 11/0 offsets by mustad. I have missed yet since fishing them. They have a wide gap which I think helps kind of like a gaff.

I fish the lp 9/0 offsets also, work good for me too, but I prefer the 11/0 now on every rig.

I've been using the lp 9/0's also. I like them. They are easy to sharpen and have a good offset. I think the barb may be a bit too big? But I fish alot of drag and plant it no probems.

I use 11/0 & 12/0 Mustad stainless hooks that I offset. But since they are expesive and I have lost a few, I also use the LP 9/0 and the Mustad stainless 8/0 that I offset. I have caught fish on all of them. Last year we got a fish over 200 pounds on an 8/0.

I only use 300 pound pink mono leader material. I also take the time to dye and rig my baits meticously which I definately belive helps improve my hook up ratio.

I've tried several different hook types - but I have been using the LP 9/0's with pretty good success lately. I like the big barb- I think it helps from pulling hooks so much. I have used some 200#lb. leader, but haven't noticed much difference from the 300#lb. black leader I normally use.

I have to agree with SwordSlasher and Mike that ever since I have used the 11/0 offset Mustad I have loved it. I still use the 9/0 LP and can't complain about it at all, but when you hook a fish on a squid with that 11/0 offset, you know it is hooked.

TP, you buy it at any place they sell the LP 300# pink leader material. Maybe Bobby Boyle, or Tommy Green sells it. Somebody gave me a few 100yd coils of it.

The Mustad models I am using are the 7699D, which is a short shank offset or a 7698D which a heavier 2-x strong short-shank non-offset version which I offset myself. Both are welded eye, forged and plated.
