I am new to this so I have lots of questions. I have caught three swords now but they have all been on squid. Does anyone find live bait a better choice ? Also has anyone used the vibrating lights ? I have three of them and plan on using them tonight but they are new and I have not used before. I will post the results tomorrow. Do most people use circle hooks or big game. I tried circle but had only one hookup and it pulled. I have not used since.

Squid for sure. Live bait is good to have in the spread, but if a sword is around I dont think they care and youd rather have them eat the dead easy to swallow bait.
Circle hooks are no good for me.. however longliners are not required to fish them, and they are still catching em good. The vibrating lights are crappy looking not bright enough. LP has a new light coming out that is supposed to be great. Good Luck tongith |

You are definately right about the crappy lights but at 13 bucks I had to try. Got a late start last night and when I got out there were a dozen boats where I usually see maybe 2 or 3 and sometimes none. It was rougher than usual but it calmed down after midnight and most of the boats went home by then anyway. I made three drifts over my most productive places and nothing. I didn't even get a pickup. Worst night I have had all summer. Guess I will have to try and find some new places.
I hope somebody had better luck than I did but I did not see any boat action or hear any talk of a hook up last night. We pulled baits at 6:30am and there were two boats farther east and north of us still there. Maybe I can get in a couple more trips before it gets too rough for my 23 footer. The vibrating light is made by Beam Marine optics Inc. There is no way to change the battery and I am not very impressed with it but I have only used it once. |

Get your self a blue/green swordlight www.swordights.com for the boat.
Then get yourself a couple of the new LP lights. You need better light near your baits. Everyone puts up skunks, just makes you a better fisherman. ST |

We have done fairly well with a 10/0 offset jhook bridled into the live bait. Real light drag to let the fish eat and then once he is pulling drag pretty good, we slowly inch to strike and crank like hell.
We fish 3 live baits usually in our spread. We've been on for swords a few times now and have got one each trip on live bait. Good luck |
