Default trolling rigs

Hello to All,

I am a new member and a new fisherman, I have been at this game for only 1 year, but have had some great help from many of the great local shops and friends.

Well I had a friend who mostly got me into sword fishing so most my tld 50's have wind on leaders for swording , My question is can I still use these for trolling or will the wind on kill my bites ?

I have also tiagra 80w with diamond braid I use for deep dropping in daytime but never use for trolling .

my main rods are tld 25's with mono and a swivel usually connect to a ballyhoo and troll skirted on my outriggers and use the 50's in back L&R using many diiferent lures , but I am not getting many bites will the wind on leader hurt ? I run my baits 150 feet back and futher .

What type of wind-ons are you using?

And what are you targetting?

We mostly target Dolphin and Tuna and our rig is like this:

50lb Main line....small spro swivel (80 or 130lbs)....30ft of fluoro leader....sea witch over ballyhoo.

For wahoo we may run a small 18" trace wire infront of the bait.

For big billfish baits close to the boat I use a bimini twist to make a 6-8 ft double line....offshore swivel knot to a snap swivel....12ft 300lb leader to a big bait.

I doubt you'll find any hardcore tournament guys fishing like this....but it's simple and works just fine for me.

we think the wind ons are over kill except for marlin and sword fish. so for wahoo's we use 50 pound test tide with a uni knot very simply but very stong and we use 100 pound billfisher ball bearing swivels we normally run a RapalaŽ MagnumŽ Saltwater Lure on the down rigger about 50 feet back and 40 feet down then on the flat lines we run black hole ilanders with ballyhoo and sea star ilanders with ballyhoo are good too and ceder plugs but wire line is the best for wahoo with ballyhoo and the regular ilander. for dolphin we use 40 pound test or 30 with bimini twist to a 75 pound swivel and we use stubby bubblers with small ballyhoo and naked ballyhoo works good to good luck
