Default Light sticks

Have been using a couple of different sticks along with the LP's and have had some fail at depth (175 foot or so and greater). What are the maximum depths that these can be used??? Any brands better? THANKS

yes, the normal light sticks party stores and most tackle stores sell will break at 150-200ft. I alwas use the LP light sticks...duralume twin stick (blue/green) and duralume valor 43 green sticks. They are inexpensive, last longer than other sticks and will not break under pressure.
you can buy them online at the Lindgren-pitman website.

190 bucks for 500 sticks...not bad at all! A few things to remember with light sticks, they must be kept in complete darkness. UV lights breaks down the chemicals inside and significantly reduces brightness and longevity. Never buy a light stick that has a orangish color, it has been exposed too long and its performance may not be optimal. A 500 bulk will have shelf life of 2 years if kept in a box or somewhere it will not be affected by UV light.
hope this helps

Try ebay for the light sticks.

if you're local, Tommy Green in LHP has the Duralumes that snap on to the line, in blue or green. 10 for 7.99. I've never had one break even at 300+ feet.

I understand HiLiner (954 783-1320 I think)has one which is a double with powder instead of a liquid. It is suppose to be very good.

I get this all the time when someone asks how deep can we fish your light stick before it implodes. Well the good people at Lindgren Pitman answered my questions.

The electralume LED light has been tested to 2200 ft for 3 months and no leaks.

The Valor 43 light stick and the twin stick Duralume both made it below 1000+ feet so it's safe to say that there will be no leaking at the depths we normally fish for Swords.

Hey, I have an idea. Has anyone made a special balloon with a special slot in the top for a lightstick? Just a though instead of having to carry duct tape with ya.

I pray that I may live to fish.......
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep

well the point would be to eliminate all tape, just a hole with one open end on the top so you could slide a light stick in

We forgot electrical tape the other night and had to improvise.

We put the glow stick inside the balloon and then blew it up. The balloon was well lit, but we would have no idea if the balloon was to tip over.

It's pretty vital to have that glow stick at the top of the balloon for those dopy swords that like to pick up the baits and swim around with them.

Get em!

That would be the point of those ballons with the slot on top . It would let you forget the tape.
