I know from some charter guys they normally use 10/0 or 11/0 jobu hooks on there rigs and have had a great hookup rate. But it also depends on what bait your using and how you are rigging it. I have a book from the canyon runner charter boat out of miami showing and explaining there swordfish rigs. If you want I will scan it and send it to you if that will help.

Not to derail, but you can fish your drags a lot heavier than 14lbs. I like 25lbs at strike on 80lb line and will go heavier during the fight. You'd be surprised at how much pressure a swordie's mouth can take. You'll catch more fish and quicker too.
I like a 10/0 or 11/0 Owner Offshore with the hook in the middle of the mantle. Avoid rigs that place the hook in the tentacles. The squid will ball up on the hook and impede the hookup. And make sure it's razor sharp. |

I would post it up on the board but its a bunch of files, but if you want it just shoot me your email address and I'll send it to you. Also has anyone done any swordfishing off the jacksonville area. I just moved to florida a month ago and really wanna get a sword trip in sometime soon. Just wondering if it's even worth going out of here or not. Any help would be great.

There are swords off Jax, but you've got to go a good long way to get to the deep water where they live. It's not like those guys down south who whack them just off the back doorstep.
