i have begun making my own trailer hooks, and was wondering if it was really necessary to use them. i have heard less fish hit it, but theres a better hookup ratio, while without it, more fish hit it and worse hookup ratio. what are all of yalls take on this???

The current fashion for Blue marlin fishing is a single southern tuna style stiff rigged extra heavy duty stainless steel hook. The lure is rigged with the hook in a rubber stopper in the lure holding the hook with the point upright.
For wahoo fishing with strips I like two tandem inline hooks with a bonita strip. For live baiting wahoo and kingfish, some use a stinger hook trailing or gently impaled in the back of the live bait. |

For me it depends on the bait.
Live hoos just dont work well with a trailer. Runners on flat yes, kite no. Gogs, never they just don't swim well with the extra baggage. Oversized speedos, always live or dead. To many 3/4 cut have returned to my boat with nary a twitch on the line. Lures always. Can you be more specific on what you want to use them on?
