Default Shark fishing rod for shore fishing?

I am new to shark fishing. I would like to get some info on a good sharking rod. I plan to buy a penn 12/0 reel with 80 lb power pro line. I would like to buy a stand up rod with an alloy reel seat. I have heard that roller guides are not good for for fishing from the beach because the sand will corode the the rollers. Is this true? Any info or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Roller guides work fine off the beach, just remember to clean them with water after every use.

As much as I like braid, I wouldn't spool a 12/0 with 80lb Braid. With the amount of money you will spend spooling that 12/0 you would be able to buy another 12/0 and spool it with mono.

I would buy a Shimano TLD-2 Speed 50IILRSA and spool it with 80lb braid. It would come out to around the same price if you spooled the 12/0 with all braid and the TLD would kick more ass than the 12/0. Make sure to put either mono or dacron backing on the reel before you put the braid on it. The TLD 50LRSA has 42lbs of Drag which is more than enough to stop a big fish. You will fit over 1000yds of 80lb braid on it, which is all you need to get any fish off the beach.

Shimano TLD50IILRSA Reel

I would buy this rod for a TLD 50LRSA:
Crowder Rod EHD6080

With that set-up you'll be unstoppable!

Do you have a kayak to take your baits out?
