San Diego fisherman have yet to see a wide open Albie bite but it's been a better than average year for BFT's (Bluefin Tuna). Full moon has provided the best numbers and in between the YFT bite has been hit or miss, mostly trolled fish. The water has been warmer than what Albacore like but the trade off has been 3/4 day trips scoring Dorado at the Islands (Coronados). The local 1/2 and 3/4 day bite has been a nice mixed bag or top and bottom species with Bonito making a strong showing this year. Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Sheephead, Sculpin, Lingcod, Rockfish, Barracuda (I recently had some smoked and it was phenominal)and a smattering of Yellowtail. I wouldn't be suprised if Dorado makes a show within' 1/2 day range before the summer is out. So get out there if you are in the San Diego area and by all means look me up at my website or email here from this cool new forum I bookmarked and I'd be glad to be a local reference. There's some excellent fishing to be had as long as the primary target isn't Albacore. Good trips right now are 1.5 - 2 dayers. Multi-day are only seeing a little better Albie bite but far more quality fish than the overnighters. If it's in your budget take your son or daughter on a multi-day trip. You'll have a buddy for life.
Thanks for this forum and sorry for the long winded post but there's a lot going on here.
