got the postcard from the department of motor vehicles that my time has come up for renewal on my license.. ok ... do this the smart way and make an appointment.. so I did for yesterday 2:15 pm.. (takes a week or so to get in..) so I show up I have my license that is about to go out. 'THE' post card that they sent me for my mail a PADI dive card / DAN insurance letter my fpl bill, a ssn card and I was told that that is not good enough.. YOU MUST ALSO bring your passport ... WTF???? so you can make an appointment. have your drivers license and still not have the recommended papers to get a renewal.. it was like a jerry springer show in there also where have we gone wrong they were even coaching the dumbest person I have even heard or seen to get his license.. we sure have a screwed up system now !!! by the way the new friggin' law was put into effect this last June 1st when someone else took office.. so anyone else with a freakin' passport (don't matter where it came from has more rights than you do to drive on your streets.... so basically your ssn is not good your existing dl is not good your post card of your full name dl # and address are not good (even if it was sent by them..) we are pretty screwed up ...! so now I have to make a second appointment which puts me in PAST my dl expiration date and she tells me I can get a frikin' 30 day extension just by signing a piece of paper (without even having any of the paper work needed to get a renewal..) go figure this one out ... I told her the system is so friggin' busted and walked out.. so if your in this predicament take your passport or ORIGINAL birth certificate with you.. maybe we should send Obama down to do one of those undercover boss things at the dmv and maybe he would wake the FU*$ up??? so screwed up... I was told this helps with the census ...

Ted-funny that you should post this. My Mom is down visiting and is having some walking and balance problems so she went to see the Doctor who suggested that she get a handicap tag for her car. She went to DMV yesterday and was told that she didnt have enough ID to get the handicap permit even though she had a drivers licence credit cards and a doctors prescription. She had to go somewhere else to get a Florida ID? Shes almost 80 and after waiting 3 hours gave up and went home. She wasnt even getting a new ID-just a handicap permit. Again WTF!!!

Go on line - "Renew Florida Driver's License". If you have a digital license (picture on file) all you need is a valid credit card and for $20 they mail you a new license with the same picture on it. If you don't have a digital license the proceedure is the same only they send you a sticker to put on your old license.
I thought going to the office, where I always see long lines, was just for people that didn't have computers. Harry |

Ted,
Copied from the Florida DMV website. Check Your Renewal Notice You should receive a renewal notice approximately six weeks prior to your license's expiration date, with information on your renewal options. If you do not receive a renewal notice, contact your local driver license office. Renew Online It only takes minutes to renew online. You will need to pay the $20 renewal fee with Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Depending on your license, you will be mailed, within approximately two weeks, either a renewal sticker to be placed on the back of your current license, or a new digital license. Harry |

Come to Stuart with your passport, there is never a line at the DMV here...
I agree with you the system is screwed up and it's only because of their own lack of control before the illegals and the terrorists got drivers licenses without any proof of anything... |

Not too clear, Harry, but every couple of years (5?) you have to go in and retake the test for the DL...unless that has changed recently. I feel your pain, TT; I went through a bunch of the same crap when I went to get my 2nd daughters SSN. I show up with a state of Florida birth certificate...embossed with an offcial seal. They would not accept it...made me make another appointment, and go get a shot record from the doctor! Now...think this thru. A shot record is simply printed by someone...potentially anyone. Dr. B...maybe you can add to this...but the pediatrician simply printed out a list of shots the abby rec'd and stamped it with his signature. This was perfectly acceptable for getting a SSN, but not an official state document??????? I agree the system is f;d up.!

Ted,
I may be wrong but I believe this whole process was changed last year when the DMV was busted for corruption. You can do a search on it to get the complete story but it started with the DMV office in Delray. It came out that several of the license issuers at that one DMV office were selling licenses to illegal aliens. If I remember correctly illegal aliens were going in and without taking any written or road tests they would get drivers licenses for $1000 -$2000 dollars. This would allow them to try to establish residency. Several people involved at the DMV were arrested including managers and supervisors. It created a outrage so they are changing their policies to ensure that no more illegal aliens are able to get licenses to try to establish residency. What we really need is a complete and total ICE & INS sweep throughout the entire nation and send all the illegals back to their country of origin until they go through the process of immigrating here legally.

I'm up for renewal in 2012 and haven't taken a re-test since my original license in 1972. Things could be different now but my wife's daughter just renewed on line and it took about 5 minutes. Harry

Harry I think you will have to do more than pay money. they want a picture on your licence that looks like you.

Richard,
I forgot to mention when I moved to Dade and changed my address (7 years ago) I had to have a new picture taken so you are right about that but no re-test. Maybe they only let you go so many years on an "old" photo? I certainly can understand why but Ted's experience sounded really bad. If he happened to go to the DMV on the corner of University Drive and Pembroke Road I understand why he had problems as I passed there today and there had to be 100+ people standing OUTSIDE the building. Wait until they want us to bring a pint of blood with us for DNA testing for positve ID. Big Brother is watching us. Harry |

My Mom went to get a Florida ID today as per their recommendation. After going to another office and waiting she is told that she has to surrender her NJ drivers licence to get a florida ID for a temporary disabled driver sticker. And they give her sass and basically tell her if its temporary she probably doesnt need it anyways- Again WTF?

Richard,
What form of ID (picture) does Florida offer other than a drivers license? I can't think of any - certainly not a library card. I know if you need 2 forms of photo ID it's usually DL and Passport. Harry |

IF your kid is also the fattest kid at school due to overeating , no exercise , etc... you can walk into any office even a tag office and with a dr's note get a handicapped sticker / rear view window tag.. is this not so stupid??? that's the kid that should be walking the farthest distance .. so we enable them to cover up the real tragedy..
they did have a lady having to explain to someone what braking is and how far a car will travel.. a - b - or c ??? OH MY GOD..please do not let this creature on the road anywhere around me..! |

Ted,
We have all been off the water too long with this windy weather. A few fishing trips and our BP will be back down to normal and the everyday crap won't seem quite as annoying. Harry |
