An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class.
The class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism." All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided that since they could not make an A, they studied less. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else. All failed to their great surprise and the professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail because the harder working people try to succeed the greater their reward but when a government takes all the reward away; no one will try or succeed. |

Nice analogy, how about this one. Right now if we gave grades for
wealth we would notice that the distribution of grades is not Gaussian/ normal/bell-shape, but bimodal and there are very little B and Cs and way too many A+. I believe those who partied the most should pay for the party. Since Reagan, over 80% of the wealth of this country has gone to less than 20% of the people. It is time to tax the wealthy to pay for their party. (2001 estimates 19% of the people own 84% of the wealth and the numbers are more skewed now!). Deregulation, because of greed, does not work. cheers, O

What was it before Reagan? What was it in 1900?

Isn't paying more of the same tax rate contributing enough?
Joe Blow makes $40k and pays $12k in Fed. tax Joe Blow Harder makes $400k and pays $120k in Fed. tax Does Joe Blow Harder use more public services than Joe Blow? Seems to me that JBH is getting a raw deal already by paying 10 times what JB pays and nobody is feeding his kids. |

income taxes. This way those that use the most resources pay the most taxes.

You got my vote on that O . It would be much easier to regulate as well by not looking up the US citizens a$$. Across the board VAT and import tax would keep more American money circulating in America . A domino Effect: This would spur a revival of American based factories to support our own economy. This could facilitate a large section of the population that needs to be hands on labor. You and I both know that we have a large population that is not properly educated in technology or have college level standards. Still they are good consious workers. These are the jobs that they can contribute to society and have a sense of self worth. The country was built on this. Breeding this into the people will balance out the haves and have nots and it can be a win win. Increase the middle class segment of the population. More Jobs, Regular Joe Blow making money not handouts. Joe Blow spending money on American made products. Feds get there cut, Joe gets his new GM Hybrid. Bring back the factory jobs that we lost to overseas. Tax them equal to what they tax our products overseas. Last edited by Tackle Engineer; 04-04-2009 at 01:31 PM.. Reason: products ...not produsts |

It's the F'n politicians ( ) that has brought us to where this country is now. We have become a country of services instead of manufacturing. Being a "services" only country is akin to being slaves to the rest of the world. Manufacturing is where the real prosperity lies, everybody working, everybody making a living and paying their own way. BRING MANUFACTURING BACK TO THIS COUNTRY WHERE IT BELONGS!!! (castrate those back-stabbing members of Congress too!!) ![]() just my .02
