President - Election Center 2008 - Elections & Politics from CNN.com

Check out the electoral college vote map- we really have become two different countries mashed together. The popular vote was pretty close with Obama winning very close contests in former swing or Republican states and both candidates winning by big margins in the rest. Obama won all the big urban states where the large groups of minoritys voted for him something like 96 percent and turned out twenty percent more than they had in the prior election. How can that not be racism? If it had turned out the other way around you know everybody including the media would be saying that the results were racially driven. When I saw that statistic I wondered why the other 4 percent didnt also vote for Obama. Were the 4 percent successful? Or did they have trouble filling out their ballots? Id love to know.

This hugely divisive election has me wondering how we pull it all together as a country. I hope that Obama ends up being a good choice and can bring our country together. The people wanted him and now they have him-I hope that everybody is happy with their choice in 4 years, though I'm not as optimistic as I'd like to be. Congradulations to the winners and good luck to everybody.

Richard

It looks like I'm getting my wish... an end to the elections, and 4 years of new jokes on the 50-line.

Richard,

Since I am a realist and I deal with what I am confronted with, I hope that the country comes together and that Obama does the right thing for everybody. Somehow I think I will be dissappointed. I am not optimistic as I do not trust ANY politician to do the right thing. I fear that our nation will soon become a welfare country where there will be no reward for hard work and ingenuity, giving hand outs to people is like giving out bread crumbs instead of teaching people how to make something of themselves and making their own real meal.

Just my .02

Richard my friend,a flag is on the field.Obama won Virginia, the cradle of the Old Confederacy which also has the highest concentration of military voters in the country. He won Florida, which has voted democratic only twice in the past 40 years. Also North Carolina, hardly an urban liberal state. He won Iowa which has less than 2% minority voters. Also Ohio, New Mexico, Indiana,Colorado and Montana, all considered Republican and hardly "big urban" states.

Obama won 2/3 of voters age 47 and younger(of all races) and close to the same % of college graduates. Nationwide exit polls showed only one in 10 said race was a factor in their vote.

Do you actually have a problem that minorities or the youth vote turned out 20% more than prior elections? Why is that not a good thing? Do you actually think that is racists and the only reason Obama won the electoral votes by more than 2 to 1? I think not!Obama won because a majority of all the American people believed he was the best person for the job and to suggest it was due to racism is simply not supported by the facts and its dissapointing to see you say that.

JT,
I ABSOLUTLEY believe that race was a factor in Obamas win. Go figure, after 200 years of being a minority, being a black man was his hole card.
Look at the black voter turnout for this election versus any other election in history....+90% is the number I have seen.

But, with blacks comprising about 20% of the national population, that could not carry the election by itself. The news media shows far more white people rallying for Obama than blacks.

The interracial support by the black populus was obvious, but it was not the "sole" reason for his victory. IMHO the failing economy and the huge profits by oil companies, and the wall street executives bonuses was just too much for the struggling working man to swallow.

God Bless America.

Come on JT you know race played a part in this election. You are to smart not to realize that.I am done with the race myself and like I said I hope he is the best Pres ever.
I am sure you could debate the race thing with me till the next election if you chose to.

There are those who say a black man named Barrack Obama won by over coming "race" as an issue not because of it.Race may have been an issue for some but I believe the vast majority voted for who they thought would be the best man for the job and not due to racism.
Hopefully we will not debate this much longer...

JT

Read my post again. I question how 96 percent of the Black vote goes to Obama yet only 52 percent of the overall vote goes to Obama? Are the Black issues that much different than the rest of the nation's voters?
I question what would have happened and what would have been said if 96 percent of the white voters had voted for McCain.

I'm not saying that Obama got elected purely because of the Black vote, but it certainly helped to give him the majority.

No not due to racism, but definitely due to RACE. The blacks (all of them)wanted one of their own in the white house and there is no doubt about that. I also believe that a large portion of whites wanted to be part of history electing the first black president (son of immigrants no less). The economy and financial crisis, the war in Iraq and bush' low approval rating
all this was just too hard to overcome. The deck was stacked from the begining. I feel horrible for Mcain. I think he would have made a great president. Actually I don't think bush did such a bad JOB, not a great orator, but he kept us safe...but as they say no good deed goes unpunished.

So now we have Pres. Obama!! Well I hope he takes his new role seriously.
I hope he takes his role in history as first black president seriously.
I hope he is just as weary of his own party as he is of the GOP.
I hope he will be a middle of the road president and not be a pawn by his
own party, because if he's not, with the strong majority in the house, we are screwed.

God bless America!!

BTW, 2 and half more years and we can start this whole thing again

My fear is that countrys like russia, china and Iran considers Obama a passive president and will test him every chance they can, this is where he has to make a stand and be tough and I just dont see that in obama. Russia said today they will deploy missles on NATO Border

I see a white middle class baby boom coming

does this mean no more racism .... I mean surely if the country can come together to pick a black president ... than minorities should not be subject to
discounts and incentives .....
