Arthur,

Your post though shocking did not surprise me (after all you are a radical longhaired Professor) and I did not think less of you because I know you.

BUT! To take your ball and run away is not what I would have ever expected from you. I think you should reconsider!

Default you can quote whoever you want...

and yep those guys were in the same 'smarty pants' type of offices like you are in Arthur.... BUT what you do or say every day of your life makes a difference to the students around you and the people you come in contact with. This left and right wing type of thinking has got us as a nation NOWHERE .. to get a grip on our problems you must see things the way they are. Sadam Hussein HAD missiles, He had poision gas, he supported anyone who would strike out against the U.S. (and where did Bin Ladin flee to???) he was just as bad as that crazy ass in Iran right now. Also Bush didn't make all the right moves in hind-site but what would you have done? Arthur, I ran a boat for a guy (opps Daytrader) that I overheard lots of his conversations with his buddies 'pushing stocks' ... I put him in the 'ass catagory' also and I walked off the boat. But there are thousands of people who do this on a day to day basis. There were 157 inities last week who pulled student funding... kinda worries me... there are people still being foreclosed on while banks are still being paid off and the rats are grabbing thier cheese ... this bothers me.. and when you right and left wingers get wound up popping off how much you hate this country ..it bugs the heck out of me! we are not talking about quotes long ago we are talking about now! This started off as a joke and it is true that Obamas group are working thier butts off for him but they have even overstepped thier lines with this acorn crap. I don't care now about his birth certificate, his house or his faith ...I care about his plans and what he has done. So far I do not have 1 good reason why I would vote for Obama. The next 4 years of office for whoever will be trying and full of sleepless nights! all the best .

Arthur you can not post up a statement like that with out knowing it would piss off a lot of people. You yourself said it was posted to get a responce.Well you got what you wanted. But because people did not like what you said no one said you could not say it.I can not quote famous people like you but as my dad used to say (Hair or no hair keep combing)

No one asked you to leave and if you do over this it would be a shame.

Cheers to you Eric

Arthur, when I first started posting I was asked not to be so aggresive towards you. ( Democrat health care reform REALLY ticks me off ) I apologized and believe it or not I'm far from a right wing nut. I'm an American who wants the government far away from my every day life. Obama and his camp are just the opposite in my book. To take a shot on the chin and run is the not the thing to do. Be a stand up guy, take the hit, and drive on. After all, don't we all just want to go fishing?

Eric,
I sent a PM to Arthur asking him not to stop posting as the scientific information that he gives us would be sorely missed. We are all capable of saying things that look badly to others so we need to forgive, forget, hold no ill feelings, and all move on - NOT AWAY. Harry

Listen, I have a lot of respect for Arthur and really enjoy his company, but if anyone posted shit like he did and expected no reaction then he was mistaken. His retraction was not sincere in my opinion because I believe he carefully composed every word he wrote. He would have been a greater man to stand-by it.

The heat in the fire was too much for him and he bailed, the one question he could never answer is why he supported Obama, not being a Republican was not a good enough answer to support this Candidate.

He will be missed, but we can not always point a finger at someone else to justify others bad behavior. Appearently by the poll of who we would vote for today, this forum is too conservative for him. I challenge anyone to find a forum that differs, with the exception of an ACLU or NAACP type site.

Arthur,
I do know that you meant no ill intent. You're obviously an educated and intelligent person. Someone respected in the fisheries community. Don't let something as trivial as politics come between you and friends. Don't let it come between you and you're ability to help this community.
It's important to remember that it never matters how you intended something, only how it's perceived. With all the support that you have just gotten from others on this site, I know you meant that you were ashamed of our leadership, not this country itself.
I for one appreciate you support of soldiers and veterans. I do what I do so that I know in my heart that I make my family proud. So that hopefully, one day when my girls are older they don't have to.
No one thinks you're a terrible person. I've seen terrible things and know terrible "people", I have no doubt you're are not one of them.
At the very least just stop talking politics and keep it to fun and fishing.

Politics and religion make quick enemies of long friends.

Default we all need to understand what G. Washington warned us about..

when he left office he spoke about how a 'party choice' could hurt us more than anything else we could go up against if we let it get crazy ... something to think about when your swiping your neighbors signs I guess..

Tim - very powerful words. Thanks for taking the time to make such a thoughtful post.

Prof O - we have never met but I hope you change your mind. When I read your letter to President Bush I was disappointed in you. But I said in another thread on here that while I was 100% against what you said, I would defend to my last breath your right to say it.

Evabody - I sent Tim a care package a couple of months ago consisting of fishing magazines (GAFF (*)(*) !! ), beef jerky and Twizzlers. But what he really wanted was scented candles to cover up the stench of the Afghani tribesmen who come in for basic medical treatment. I'm not joking. Unfortunately for me, I'm temporarily unemployed so I can't afford the cost to ship the candles and the other items he asked for. So while Tim is serving as a medic for the US Army 7th Special Forces Group he has to be in close proximity to people whose "aroma" is eye-wateringly foul. I commend Tim for putting up with a lot of BS (on his 3rd tour no less!) to help keep us safe back here at home.

Prof O, if Tim wants you back here too, don't you think you should change your mind?
