First why would you buy a house close to the airport if you do not like the noise of Jets and other aircraft , to build the runway on the north side you would have to shut down all of cargo city, and put it somewhere accessible for the aircraft of FedEx, DHL, etc, etc or would you rather have that completely moved to another airport which would equal loss of revenue for the airport and landing fee’s will rise regardless.

On the south side of the airport there is the Jet Center, and Gulfstream Airlines and a few office buildings and most of them are empty.

Sorry the airport has been there a hell of a lot longer than some of the houses in the area hell some look new, bad on the builder and way bad on the buyer if you did not think jets made noise.

For the comment that there is enough noise with small aircraft now, that is another stupid statement, FLL handles large commercial aircraft on a daily basis MD11, DC10, B747, B757, B767, A320, B737 up to the 800 series. It is actually the smaller and older B727, MD80, and DC9 that make more noise and more pollution with the old JT8 engines which are in the process of being phased out, and if Ft Lauderdale gets the longer runway for larger aircraft that will equal less flights since it will be able to handle the newer larger aircraft with more capacity, not to mention they are quieter, and do not put out as much pollution. That is the reason for the new runway is to handle the aircraft of the future.

The guy that bought his house within a few miles of the airport made a bad buy and if you do not like noise move to where there is no airport.

Sorry for the rant but I hate seeing progress slowed by eco waco's that do not know all the facts or they do and just forget to mention them.

Default Catching..before you rant take a good look..

the houses that are going to be in the way so to speak when ya go to the south runway go all the way out west to nob hill. think they will be impressed? also my house was built in 1950's and we deal with the small planes. And by the way DHL is already looking at Miami.. we have lots less fuel and plane fares are going way up, the airport IS already big enough in the first place so NO BUILD sounds like alot better option...don't you think? maybe you should go watch it again.. 3 billion of our money to build this.. 11 million was already given to them by FDOT (your tax dollars for our roads) you seem informed to a point you should go look at how much property the airport already has to use and new up to date buildings could be built to 2008 standards and we would all smile with what we got. And your for tearing up more enviroment and people??? come on now... watch it again you'll start to catch on even mapquest lets ya count houses...

I live west of the airport and the only time I really here the jets inside my house is when they are taking off to the west or avoiding storms, so do not give me the noise polution BS on approach there is not that much. There is hardly anything on the south side to move or rebuild and the revenure loss will be less. For the eco comments, it is in the video and is a bunch save the manatee BS there are more now than ever and I think they are used to the noise level by now. Flights come a go with seasons, and economy. Airline and freight companies will leave if they can not get their new aircraft into the airport, and what about 595???? it runs right on perimeter RD north side of airport, ever hear of jet wash and cars they do not mix well. South side is the better over all option as far as I am concerned, you are only looking at the build of the runway not everything else in the big picture on the north side of the airport.

Did you live in the house your in in 1950? When did you buy the house?

Assuming you bought it in the last ten years then get used to it. The airport had a higher noise and polution levels when there was nothing but old jet aircraft taking off pouring out black smoke on take off back in the 90's, if you bought in the past five years then shame on you for buying in a location that you have to put up with all the noise and polution.

Default well thats a fight I have to take on..

seems that some people just don't get whats going on. you should watch your human footprint by national geographic and the doc. Crude also.. Sharkwater is a great Doc. also and you can get them all at netflix. the people here have been fighting for 15 years. the view and property we have is great. the airport thing is stupid right along with selling alligator alley, spending 4.3 mill on invetigating a trolley for ft laud. , shoving ethanol on us , cutting our teachers down... want to hear more? we currently still have 3 runways and it is fine! Moss built the best looking simple building I have ever seen on re-claimed land on the west ... my hats off to the new sherrifs building. I'd like to see more projects like that! there are so many better ways to spend $. I bet if you asked fed x if they wanted a cool building to make things run better they would smile.. we need more tri-rail parking also. and a people trian out 595 with parking. just a thought.. I would rather be a solution than a problem.. and dude yep if you take wetlands / a canal with enviromental set backs and run off, racoons, birds, people and re-build a airport that does not need it because of $...you do make the funny list.

Can you answer this question

Did you live in the house your in in 1950? When did you buy the house?

My parents, and grandparents actually used to live there but were smart enough to move out, but not due to the airport. It was just a nasty smelly tidel swamp and they decided to leave.

You people are funny, talk about our human foot print the area you are living in used to be mangroves when I grew up down here, the land crabs were everywhere, the water was clear, and the fishing was incredible. Why not do you part and tear down your house and restore it to the way it was, start walking to work, and go live in a shack with no power. Give me a break, the old homes in that area are being torn down and rebuilt with bigger houses as we type so please do not talk to me how concerned the people are for the ecosystem.

PS did you check your tire presurre today, and only use your AC when you were on the HWY

Default fact is I did check...

I had to get down the turnpike to sunshine tanks in miami...all 4 were great and even found the sunpass. Nope I didn't help nail a form board at all but I live here now and for some time now. Seems you want to go to the dark side also and be persnikiky or something ... bottom line is this airport expansion is a joke, this new tit for tat I'll grease you if you grease me way of life that some live needs to opened up and people need to see whats really going on. as for the Poor mans waterfront.../ Dania Cutoff canal..I like it and I have fish at my dock. I can see the planes take off everyday to the north..not many planes no more.. . the days of Jeb Clampete shooting a rabbit and getting oil also are gone. Not so easy to get it now. did you ever hear though the runway would be 40+ feet high?.. wow anyway I am building some really cool flats boats with solar powered batt. bank systems also . bet if you asked 10 people to watch it you'd have a hard vote against ya..

I have lived hear all my life I and I happy with the way things are and would like to see it get better, and not expanding the airport to handle larger aircraft is not good for the future of FLL, if we do not do it the business, jobs, and tourism will go to another city but I guess that is Ok with you since it is not in your back yard.

Anyway guess we will have to agree to disagree

BTW the FedEx building is new and just about 5 or 6 years old, it was cool watching it get built, but sad watching the southside of the airport go to waste. I am still trying to figure out why the hell they put a lake where we used to play softball after work. Just makes no sense to me but they did it.

Default What a thread...

WELCOME TO THE FORUM TED

Thomas Paine was one of my favored founding fathers and in some ways your points are very profound, yet to the point.

BTW- Vinnie, where did you find that video? Many points I agree with, some I do not, but Tomas was a great U-tube speaker.

I am a multicultural guy, so I cannot just buy into, this way or the hi-way. But some country self-preservation comments are RIGHT on the MARK, just don't don't get so carried away, to forget the framework and foundation, intent of our founding fathers. I do believe that prejudice was not intended to be a ubiquitous element of our expansion and growth into a modern society. Yet, it is vitally important to protect what is Ours before recklessly sharing it with others, beyond our borders.

This Forum thread is Excellent! Good Subject matter(s) here.

BTW - It is pouring down rain near the Port right now.
