I fished there allmy life and I can tell you if the water is ther and you canget out the tunsa will probably be there. Fishing the end of the season has produced some wild Bigeye bites! You probably wont see and yellowfins but the bluefins, longfins and Bigeyes could sure still be there.
I have personally fished the last week in Nov and crushed the Tuna. It should be going off on the eastelbow of the hudson with Bluefins right now if the water is still there. A few years back a friend of mine that worked on a longliner had the best bigeye and bluefin trip he ever had the first week in Dec. There first set by the fishtails had every bait eaten by a Bigeye (all between 150 and 250) or a Bluefin. The one Bluefin they kept was over 500lbs! Luckly most of the hooks had Bigeyes hanging. Filled the boat in just 2 days, after off-loading the weather turned wicked and couldnt get out for another 3 weeks and the water was gone, No tuna at all. Here's a shot you might like from my boat a while back!

I am with fL Capt too, I still live there and spend my winters in Fl. If there is water there there are fish there. I have personally caught fish Longlining on the West wall up to three days before Christmas. I have also seen Bluefins in Toms in January when we were steaming back from down South. The latest I have Rod and reeled fish up there is Thanksgiving but have never had a good weather window after that but I am posative if the water is there so are the fish.

The real name is Big Eye mountain
The sight of 8 rods all going off at the same time with 200lb eyes. Funny thing I was looking through some old #s the other night and saw the mountain #s.

Hey flcapt, awesome pic.
Yea, when I was little kid, my dad caught many big eye tuna at the Hudson Canyon. Believe it or not, I never catch one big eye tuna before From another site.... MakoMike Stopped at a local dive in galilee for a beer this afternoon, the annual bigeye bite is going on strong. Some guys are heading out on Monday or tuesday, sounds like there are lots of fish out there. |
