Default Great fishing in RI

Friday, July 14th 1:15 a.m.
Kyle called in at 10:30am to say that they where having a great morning. They have a 14 pound fluke in the boat. Eighty six year old Frank Perry had an 8 pound already on his new JB Custom rod.

A great night with the striped bass last night. the first fish in the boat was a 42 pounder. The bight lasted all night. There was only a light crowd on board and all left with smiling faces. Christine wants to let everyone she will be in the office all weekend for the Noreast Fluke tournament. Last year the $10,000 winner was caught on the Gail Frances. We are going to try and do it again this year. Christine also wants to know when Eric is going to show up for his fishing vacation.

Another great day on the beach reports Capt. Mike from the 8am Full Day Fluke Boat. Troop 84 Boy Scouts from Richmond Michigan had a great day with the fluke catching lots of keepers and shorts all day long. The largest fish for the group a fine 4 plus pound flattie was brought to the net by Ken Hohlbein. The largest fluke on the boat were in the 6 to 7 pound range. Hi hooks swung over 30 fish over the rails and there were at least a few limit catches. Again quite a few nice fish in the 3 to 4 pound range. A handful of nice seabass and one cocktail bluefish plus a few jumbo sea robins to round out today's catch.

A very interesting day on the beach today is the report filed from Capt. Mike on the Admiral Frances, the 8am Full Day Fluke boat. Regular customer Bob, from Meriden, CT, nailed one of the season's largest slabs, weighing a solid 10 pounds. A young lady nailed one of the season's best double header including fish of 7 and 4 pounds. Several anglers limited out. The best action today was down the beach a bit. Every day is a little different on the beach, now today the simple rigs which slayed the flatties yesterday could catch only mostly shorts today. The hot rig today was a hi-low rig fished with short leaders close together with white and green feathers. The ball jig with a short trailer was also hot today, especially for big fish.

Tuesday, July 11th 8:00 p.m.
The fishing along the beach today on the 8am boat was hotter than the weather inland today! Fishing just minutes outside the wall, Capt.George put today's anglers into nonstop action with summer flatties. Some large fish were taken to the net today as well with several 8 lb. pool contenders. A very good number of fish in the three to five pound range as well, and plenty of other nice keeper fish also in the mix. All regular anglers were limited out and throwing fish back. All patrons left with nice bags of fluke fillets ready for the table. Several anglers boated close to 50 fish a man. Bob Lazur, from Tolland, swung 51 fluke over the rail, included was a limit catch including three jumbo fluke from 4 to 8 lbs. High hook swung 62 fish over the rail and that fella too was throwing keepers back the last couple hours. A few nice seabass and one platter-size scup rounded out the catch. While chartreuse and pink and green all caught some really nice fish today, the best catches as far as both numbers and size were caught with just squid and spearing on bare hooks. Sometimes the motion of jigging had to be adjusted to the ever-changing drift conditions, but as long as one could adapt, his or her rod was bent all day long. The 7am boat fishing for Jumbo Seabass and Fluke also had a nice shot of fish today. Quite a few seabass mixed in with a good number of nice size fluke up to 6 lbs. Some scup and bluefish mixed in as well and there were several limit catches of fluke reported. The AM half day trip was also quite a success with some nice fluke to 5 lbs and a few hefty seabass mixed in. The evening's sunset fluke run faced some hefty seas so Capt Don ran inside the Harbor of Refuge and put anglers into a steady pick of fluke with a surprising number of keepers mixed in. Fluke fishing in general is excellent, so whether half day or full day, now is as good a time as any to come down and get in on some of this great summer fishing that Rhode Island's south shore has to offer.
