Default HUGE 40lb Cod!

FRIDAY March 24- Captain Dave just called the office on his way in from a fantastic day of local cod. We had between 225 and 250 keeper cod up to 40 pounds!!!! John Bruno was our pool winner with an incredible 40 pound cod!! John had a total of 14 fish making it a great day for him. His buddy Steve DeLara had 16 keepers up to 28 pounds. Wesley Peterson of Montauk NY had 8 cod and 2 pollack with his biggest cod weighing in at 21 pounds. The father and son team of Bob and Mark Rafferty had 16 fish between them with their biggest coming across the rail at 15 pounds. We were delighted to have Captain Stret Whitting of the Montauk charter boat "Wake" fishing on our boat today and he was delighted to catch the second biggest fish of the day weighing in at 33 pounds. Seven year old Gabriel McGuire caught his first ever cod and it was an incredible 20 pounds. Way to go Gabriel, keep it up.THE FISH ARE HERE NOW. Don’t hesitate to get out there and catch them while they are still here. Don’t wait to hear " You should have been here yesterday" Don’t forget we have 2 boats ready to sail so call for reservations or come on down in person at 2am.

After some research, I have discovered the following...

The real Quack Quack was in fact a Viking and a personal friend of Captain Paul Forsberg; they caught a number of swordfish together.

As to the Frances Fleet... Frank Blount was an attendee of the Viking College of Knowledge. In fact most of the top captains on the east coast have attended the Viking College of Knowledge.

This information came directly from someone that was there from the beginning!

Capt Rich you are 100% correct the real Quack Quack was my father and Frank Blount is my brother in law.Are you up north or over on the west coast? My brother Chuck and I are going to go over and make a trip sometime this summer I think.I will always be a Viking at heart. In fact I still am the conger eel king  I was on the Starship on her maiden trip.I have many many memories of growing up on the Viking fleet and would not change that for anything.Tell Paul the family is well and I thank him for many of those memories and for being a good ship mate to my father.

Eric...

Actually, I'm Lisa and work in the office in Tarpon Springs. I was very excited though about your original response and showed it to Capt. Paul and Capt. Rich right away. It was fun listening to Capt. Paul tell stories about your dad; I'll be sure to let him know that everyone is doing well.

Capt. Rich runs the Viking location here in Florida, Capt. Paul is also here most of the year. He makes a lot of trips north though. Please let us know if you'll be able to visit us in Tarpon Springs...727-938-5300. Hope to see you in sunny FL soon...

Hi Lisa this post has brought back a lot of memories the last few days.I am sure Paul told you that my dad passed away back in September. So it is hard at times to think about the past. But this has been cool to know that he will live on in the hearts and memories of all that knew him.My brother and I live in Florida now so a trip to the west coast should only take about 4hrs to get there.I wish the Starship was still there only from a nostalgia point of view. But it will be cool just to fish on a Viking boat again.I am sure Paul told you about our lifetime pass.

Eric...

You missed the Starship by one year, she was here for the 2004-2005 winter/spring season. I think you'll be impressed with our new addition though, the Superstar is beautiful. 3 years in the making & worth it.

The Superstar will be in Tarpon until after the Iron Man trip on May 15, then head up to Montauk to run the ferry to/from Block Island. Check out the website (www.vikingfleet.com) to see if any of the trips will work into your schedule.

If you make a trip over please be sure to let me know ahead of time so that I can make sure that Paul is around. I know this post has rekindled memories for Paul also, he had such a smile on his face while telling stories. I'll see him tomorrow at some point, so I'll be sure to bring up this post for him.

Please keep in touch & hurry over to Tarpon!
