Default Montauk Sportfishing Report - Montauk Classic Results

9/26/05

I just thought of another indication that fall is here; being too cold to get up and close the window.

The Montauk Classic was held over the weekend, and I guess the fishing was pretty good judging from the results, another indicator of fall.

1st Place Bass - John Bruno - 33.66 lbs

2nd Place Bass - Mike Mirando - 26.22 lbs

3rd Place Bass - George Bowen - 23.70 lbs

1st Place Bluefish - Richie Michelsen - 11.28 lbs

2nd Place Bluefish - Robert Bayon - 11.24 lbs

3rd Place Bluefish - Richie Andersen - 10.32 lbs

The bait is on the move, and the inshore fishing is picking up all over the place. Bass fishing is greatly improved with fish being taken just about any way you want to, live bait, trolling, diamond jigging, or even casting. Plenty of bluefish around and don’t forget the fly guys favorite falsies.

Offshore the tuna action is about the same out around the 400 line, a couple of fish per boat. So far no indication of bluefin showing up to the east, at least not anywhere close. Shark fishing continues steady, but the weather is going to start to play a part in the offshore fishing. We’re scheduled to have a bit of breeze for a couple of days this week, and that will be more and more common as we get deeper into October.

If you ever wanted to fish at Tropic Star Lodge in Panama but couldn’t get in because it was already fully booked, here’s your chance. I have clients booked there next March who have had to cancel because of the hurricane. If you would like to take over their booking, give me a call, anytime.
