Default Montauk Offshore Fishing Report

Offshore, around the fifty fathom line the fishing was great early in the week, with tuna, marlin, dolphin and even a barracuda, which was caught on the WAKE, in addition to a blue marlin, two white marlin and a couple of assorted tuna. However, by the time I got out there on Friday, everything had pretty much dried up A couple of boats caught a couple of longfins, and a fair number of boats caught some mahi, but I believe most of those were the smaller ones hanging around the pot buoys. Further inshore shark fishing was OK, but mostly blue sharks were being reported, with only a very occasional mako.

Closer to shore, the fishing is difficult, but not impossible, with some nice fish around, just not enough of them. Uhlein’s Grand Slam Tournament over the weekend had stripers up to 44 pounds, fluke to ten pounds, sea bass to five pounds and bluefish to fourteen pounds. The contest is run on a point system, and to win you have to catch decent size fish in all four categories. The recreational winner was the PERSUADER III, with second place to the NIGHT STALKER and third to the ONLINE. The party boat division went to the SEA OTTER and the charter boat prize went to the LADY BONES.

I'm having trouble with receiving e-mails, and it seems to be that I don't receive e-mails that are sent as replies. Instead of hitting "Reply" it would be best if you sent a new e-mail. If you are expecting a reply from an e-mail that you have sent me and don't get it, it may be because I haven't received you e-mail.
The best thing to do in that case is to call me the old fashioned way - telephone.
