I’m a day late with this because of computer problems. There was also a private boat a day late, and a dollar short when he brought a 557 LB thresher in to Star Island on Sunday. They had their Mako Mania tournament on Friday and Saturday, and had added threshers as an eligible species. The results are as follows; 1st Place Mako - AMANDA LEE - 181 lbs 2nd Place Mako - RAINBOW RUNNER - 145 lbs 3rd Place Mako - PORT OF EGYPT - 134 lbs 1st Place Thresher - REEL MAGIC - 409 lbs 2nd Place Thresher - CRICKET II - 344 lbs 3rd Place Thresher - REEL TIME - 334 lbs The boats running out to fifty fathoms have been having a fairly steady pick of yellowfins and longfins, although it sometimes seems as if it is feast or famine, with one boat catching nine or ten and another getting only a couple. There are also some nice mahi sprinkled around with some smaller ones under the pots. On the inshore grounds, things are the same as they have been all summer, with bass fishing difficult most of the time. Trolling is still the best way to go, but some anglers preferring to use the live porgies, in spite of the fact that there just are not enough fish around for it to be effective. Those of you who like to fish somewhere warm in the winter will be interested to know that the famed Fins n Feathers lodge in Guatemala has gone out of business as a result of a civil action going against them. They are close to 90% booked for the upcoming season, and all deposits will be returned, but it is likely to result in a scarcity of boats there. So if you were thinking about fishing there, you best start making your plans sooner than you thought necessary. If you would like to have these reports sent to you directly, just drop me a note at CaptGene@MontaukSportfishing.com. And for more information about fishing in Montauk, you can give me a call at 800 280 5565 or check out http.//www.montauksportfishing.com. I'm having trouble with receiving e-mails, and it seems to be that I don't receive e-mails that are sent as replies. Instead of hitting "Reply" it would be best if you sent a new e-mail. If you are expecting a reply from an e-mail that you have sent me and don't get it, it may be because I haven't received you e-mail. The best thing to do in that case is to call me the old fashioned way - telephone.
