TUNA HUNTER Fishing Charters home base is Gloucester, Massachusetts, where ginat bluefin tuna is the main big game. Bluefin schoolies are in our area some years - 2005 seems to be one of them as there are school bluefin on the banks now - 50 - 250 pounds. These schoolies are great charter and angling fun - but hard to catch. Once hooked, one is in for a great fight on light tackle - a good test of one's angling skills and stamina.
The real draw are the giants, however. While in 2004 the giants seemed to pass by Cape Ann as the bait in our area was scarce, in 2005 it seems the giant bluefin are hanging in our area - making for great charters targeting bluefin tuna. TUNA HUNTER will troll squid or mackerel, or if conditions and dogfish allow anchor up and chum up an enticing slick. Both methods have produced action this year - with promise of more to come through August and September as the warm weather keeps the water warm which holds bait and thus holds the tuna. Captain ary Cannell is a veteran giant tuna fisherman, his experience covering the Atlantic coast from FL to Maine. Capt. Gary has been chasing tuna for over 25 years, since '84 on the TUNA HUNTER, a vessel which he helped build and purchased soon after. TUNA HUNTER was built expressly for tuna fishing - she is meticulously maintained by Captain Gary, as is all tackle and line on board. TUNA HUNTER has some openings through September. We are excited about this season - we are looking to hook up - and to hook you up - call us at 978-407-1351 for more information, or see http://www.fishingchartersma.com or http://www.tunahunter.com for more photos and for more information. |

Hi Captain Cannell,
Just some quick questions about the Giants so far: How is the fishing holding up? Have you been out for giants in the last couple of days? Are you chumming? I spoke with you last week about a charter, you were changing your oil I believe. Anyway I'm coming up this weekend to fish Cape Cod for giants with a commercial diver who has never fished with a rod other than fresh water. Maybe this will cure the snake bite I have had for 19 years with Bruce, "The Great One". Anyway, it will be the diver and myself in a 24' CC. Theres more, I'll send you a PM in a day or so. Thanks for your help |
