Default reply to mike!

Right now we are using green Flexsticks as these are the brightest and we've found last the longest! We are using 18/0 circle hooks as per government regulations IE less turtle bycatch! They seem to be working very well!

Thanks Shortly. How far back are you putting the lightstick from the bait. And what's your bait of choice for swordfish?

Default Hey Mike!

We put our sticks about 12 feet from the bait, Two fathoms. I find that mackeral works best in this area. Although large squid will work just as well!

Do you think a battery powered light such as electrolumes etc should be placed farther back than 12ft due to the brightness of these lights.

Default electralumes

When I worked for LP a few years ago we were experimenting with the distances of battery lights from the bait, we found that the lights worked best two fathoms up from the bait, maybe a little closer when the moon isn't very bright. Catch em up Jerry! Shorty P

Default where to find mako's in the N.E.

I understand how the water temp plays a major role in the migration pattern of mako's. So with ideal conditions present where are the mako's most likely to show up, wrecks , 30 fathom line, 100 fathome line or can i just base everything soley on the water temp and start chumming? I'm mainly concerned with big mako's. And on what side of the temp break will i be more likely to find these monsters.

Default Monster mako's!!!

Hey Hamma, Chumming up around the wrecks would be the best as far as inshore fishing is concerned in my book, offshore we fish the cold side of the break and usually pick a few, although Mako's are not our target species. Swordfish is our target. Give em hell! Hope that helps, remember the more chum you get in the water the better chance you have of getting the smaller fish in a frenzy around the wrecks, thus attracting the big Mako's! Shorty P
