They were going to kill it anyway-given that,I say go sharks-they are just doing what they do-now if the fish was going to be released then that's different-imho

Must have been a side attack from a great white or tiger.
I am glad the shark got it since they would not have released it. Maybe, I'm
wrong...

I doubt it was a tiger or a white shark. They have a serious problem with the reef sharks down there, they have learned to attack in packs and make short work of even the largest marlin.

Like i mentioned earlier, the reef has had a major problem recently with sharks, the reef and whaler sharks have learned to follow sport boats around and wait for them to hook up a black and quickly make short work of it. The sharks arent as large as you would think, maybe just a couple hundred pounds, some smaller, some larger, but a pack of them make short work of even the largest marlin.

Gday All,

Aussie fisherman here, just joined up and great site.

I deckied on board Reel Affair II for 3 years and we had many marlins sharked. The species of shark are usually big Hammerheads, Whalers, it is amazing how big the sharks are out there.

And yes, we hate it when a big marlin gets sharked..

Cheers

Ben
